Highlights

We painted our clay animals today.

Tomorrow is Sports Day and the Farewell assembly.  Students will be outside for a large portion of the day.  Please make sure you child has a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and comfortable shoes for running.

What did you learn about birds today?  (Birds all have feathers, wings and lay eggs. Not all birds can fly.  Feathers help keep birds dry and warm.  Some birds have webbed feet to help them swim.  Some birds like to live alone, while others live in groups.  Birds can have different shaped beaks depending on what they eat.)

Highlights

Some groups had their spelling quiz today.  A few groups will finish their quizzes on Monday.  Students did an excellent job designing and assembling their robots out of recyclable materials.  We were especially pleased to see how students cooperated (this month’s virtue!) by working together to solve problems with their designs.  Way to go, Grade 1!

Students worked with clay during Art today.  We also talked about different ideas for our robots tomorrow.  We are almost finished the novel Despereaux.

As part of our Building unit in Science, we will be constructing robots out of recycled materials.  We will need items like cereal boxes, pasta boxes, clean yogurt containers, egg cartons, buttons, caps or lids, scraps of fabric, paper towel rolls, etc.  If you have any of these items, please send them with your child before Friday, June 17.  Thanks!

Volunteers wanted
If parents have a security clearance and would like to help students with their robots on Friday, June 17, please let us know.  We are looking for about 2 parents per class to help from 10-11:30 a.m.
