Highlights

Today we started our “Three Left Feet”, artist residency. For the next two weeks we will be learning about creative dance as an art form. We are working towards our Celebration of learning performance in December. We are excited to show our families the poems and dances we have created and are working hard.

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 13th

Parent Math Night (adults only) featuring Dr. David DeCoste
Panorama Hills School Gymnasium
7:00 – 8:00 pm

We are very fortunate to be able to invite Dr. David DeCoste to our Panorama Hills School parent community where he will share his expertise and understanding of Alberta Education’s Mathematics Education. Dr. David DeCoste supported teachers in Panorama Hills School last year in developing understanding and creating curriculum for the math program of studies. We hope you will be able to attend our evening.

The purpose of the evening will build on our belief that…
Understanding the value of mathematics education involves many steps.
Mathematical skills, along with reading and writing, are fundamental to your child’s success both in school and beyond the classroom.
To ensure that your child is prepared for high school and for future post-secondary studies or the workforce, you must become involved early—and stay involved over the school years—to reinforce your child’s skills and positive attitudes toward mathematics.
Parents play a huge role in their child’s education. By encouraging a positive attitude, building persistence, playing fun games, reading and involving your child in meaningful real life mathematics, your child will truly succeed.
Use math confidently to solve problems
                     Reason and communicate mathematically
                     Appreciate and value mathematics
Make connections between mathematics and its applications
                     Commit themselves to lifelong learning
Become mathematically literate adults using mathematics to contribute to society

It’s a big goal, but very attainable – with your help. Parents play a huge role in their child’s education. By encouraging a positive attitude, building persistence, playing fun games, reading and involving your child in meaningful real life mathematics, your child will truly succeed.
