Highlights

On Tuesday we had a practice evacuation drill and the whole school walked to Captain Nichola Goddard School.

In Social Studies we looked at pictures and talked about different places and events in Calgary (e.g., Calaway Park, Saddledome, Stampede, Fort Calgary, etc.)  Later we will be comparing our community with other communities in Canada.

We also started working on editing our writing.  We are checking to make sure that our sentences have a capital letter at the start and punctuation at the end.  We are also checking to make sure that words from our word wall are spelled correctly in our writing.

Important Information

Inline Skating
Thank you to students who have returned their inline skating forms.  Our class has inline skating times next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  If your child has a helmet or inline skating equipment they would like to use, please send these items on Monday.

Students are taught and encouraged to put on their own inline skating equipment; however, it would be beneficial to have a parent volunteer assist with the equipment.  If you would like to help on any of these days, please email Ms. Bain at lcbain@cbe.ab.ca.

Our inline skating times are:
Monday: 9:05-9:55
Tuesday: 10:50-11:45
Wednesday: 9:55-10:50

Thursday, Oct. 27- Parent council meeting (Gr. 4 teachers will be presenting at this meeting)
Monday, Oct. 31- Black and Orange Day- Please wear black or orange.  Students are not to wear costumes to school this day.

CANS IN BOTH HANDS: DONATIONS FOR THE CALGARY VETERANS FOOD BANK
The Calgary Veterans Food Bank is collecting non-perishable food items at our school beginning the first of November. Many of our Canadian veterans, their widows and dependants will be benefiting from your generous donations. Please bring your non-perishable food items to place in the collection boxes located inside the doors through the school’s main entrance.

PHS Used Book Sale
We are having a Used Book Drive and Sale.  Kindly save us your gently used books (no adult books please). Books can be brought in October 11 to November 25.  The Book Sale will happen during Parent Teacher Conferences December 1 and 2.  All books will be reasonably priced. Thank you in advance for your support!

Photos for School Remembrance Day Assembly
As part of our Remembrance Day assembly we are asking for photographs of family members, past or present, who have served in any military branch.  We are requesting a photograph to be scanned and emailed to Mrs. Boutillier (miboutillier@cbe.ab.ca). If you cannot scan the photograph please feel free to send it to school and we will scan it and return it to you. Please include their name, when they served, and any other information you would like to include.
