Highlights
In math, students are learning to use the “doubles plus one” addition strategy.  For example, if you know 5+5=10, then 5+6=11 because it is one more.

During Social Studies, we reviewed some of the concepts we have studied this year (e.g., What is a community?  What is a map?  What is a floor plan?  What does the word “belong” mean?)

Homework
Reading- Reading every night makes a huge difference.  Please make sure your child is either reading the take home paper books, Raz-Kids books, or their own books at home (if the books are at a level where they can read most of the words and understand what they are reading).  At this point in time, grade 1 students should be reading about 15 minutes every nightJ

Word study (spelling)- Students all should have received either a green or pink spelling list.  Please practice these words at home (e.g., practice 3-5 words each night).  Students will be tested on these words near the end of January.
